I have previously written about applying for a UK visa from Nigeria in this post but did you also know that there are 20 other countries to visit with a UK visa on a Nigerian passport? Yes, a UK visa expands the small list of countries Nigerian passport holders can see in addition to these other places we can visit either visa-free or with a visa on arrival.

This post will list these additional countries, including references to their official immigration sites. As travel requirements are constantly changing, I implore you to do your research, especially before your travel dates, to ensure you have the latest travel requirements.

UK visa from Nigeria

I will update this article as often as possible, but please be aware that visa policies may change at any time. Before you pack your bags, get an update on your visa status from the Immigration Offices of the countries you intend to visit.

Please share your experiences travelling with a Nigerian Passport, and if you have visited any of these countries with a UK visa, please share your thoughts to improve this post!

  1. Apparently, Mexican immigration does not allow you to travel to Mexico with a UK visitor visa any longer. You need to have a UK resident visa before you are even allowed to leave Nigeria or the UK. I had the problem travelling to Mexico and I had to use a schenghen visa.

    1. Thanks for sharing, OreOfe. I’ve pinned your comment so others can see it as a reference.

        1. Please do u have any update on this? I m travelling to mexico with my two kids, I as an adult have US visa, but my two kids and I also UK visa, my kids dont have US visa. what do u think? was there a policy change towards NIgerians ? pls advice.

  2. Hello Amarachi,

Do I need a visa to travel to Dublin as i am on a student visa.

    1. Hi Mimi, from my little research online, it seems like you do. However, I would advise you to call or email the airline/embassy to get a concrete answer.

  3. Hi Amarachi,

Thanks for your informative articles. I really enjoyed the one you made for the US visa holders alongside this one. Please, can you do something like this for holders of the Canadian Temporary Residence Visas..pleaseeeeee?

Perhaps, you have done it previously, please can you provide a link to the post?

    1. Hi Aurora, thanks for your comment and I’m glad you enjoyed reading these articles! I will work on one for Canadian visas and post it up in a few weeks! Thanks!

  4. Hi Amarachi
Please can you explain how mexico works with uk visa, how do we know if our visa still permits us as I’m currently in the uk on a work visa

    1. Hello Gloria, I think ultimately, it is best to contact the airline or embassy for more information. I’m not sure what a UK work visa looks like but a tourist visa has a start and end date – and has details on whether it is a single-entry or multiple-entry visa. If you travel within the validity of your visa and have visited the UK with the same, then at the time of this writing, you can visit Mexico with it.

The Mexican embassy website, linked in the post, still says people with valid UK visas, which include tourist and resident permit holders can visit Mexico with the same visa.

  5. Hi Amarachi,
Thank you for this information. I want to visit Egypt and I currently reside in the UK. However, I have been searching for information everywhere about the visa for Egypt and I cannot find anywhere where it’s stated that Nigerians with UK visa or BRP can visit Egypt without visa. If there is, please can you please post a link where I can find this information or please explain to me how I can go about the whole thing. Thank you.

    1. Hi Gift, please see the “Visa” section in the link I posted within the table. It does say over 180 nationalities with a valid and used UK visa (amongst others) can get a visa on arrival. Since there have been Nigerians who received their visas on arrival successfully, it is safe to assume that Nigeria is part of the 180 countries.
As this is a fairly new development, my guess is that many sites are not yet updated. As I advised Timothy in the comments below, it is best to contact the airline or embassy to re-confirm this for yourself.

  6. Hi Amarachi,
I just stumbled on your site. It’s been a frustrating few days for my partner and me. We live and work in the UK and we recently booked a holiday in Malta. Unfortunately, we have to apply for a Maltese Schengen visa which has been so frustrating. Getting a visa appointment amidst our tight schedule is virtually impossible. We were even ready to travel all the way from London to Edinburgh for the visa appointment but all the slots are booked. I had looked up some really nice holiday destinations in Morocco and Egypt but I thought we had to do the whole visa application thingy to visit these countries. I didn’t know this would be easier with our UK BRPs. So, just to confirm, do you mean I can visit Morocco and Egypt with my Nigerian passport and UK BRP? Amarachi, this is a matter of life and death! Help, please!
    Lol.

    1. Hello Timothy, yes, you can visit both countries with your UK resident permit. For Morocco, it’s less risky, since you can apply online for the evisa (link is in the table). For Egypt, I know people who have gotten the visa on arrival without issues (the link is also in the table), but to be on the safe side, I would also call the airline and confirm this with them.
I wish you and your partner a pleasant holiday! Both Morocco and Egypt are excellent travel destinations!

  7. Correct!!!
Actually just returned from Montenegro (Podgorica and Kotor) last night with just my Nigerian passport and BRP card. You will find cheap flights too (as low as 20 Pounds). I will definitely recommend this destination. Turkey was on the list, but we’ve (Nigerian passport holders) been bungled out due to diplomatic reasons.
Correction: The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is actually in North America.

  8. This is such a helpful article! I have a graduate visa, still valid and BRP. Does this mean I can enter Mexico without visa? The referenced article says “permanent residents’ so i’m a bit confused.

      1. Hi, i have valid uk visa mut entr can i go from UK to Mexico with my Nigeria passport how can it possible please?

    1. Hi Amarachi, thank you for this information
As regards mexico pls when you do you know if your uk visa is still valid, as I have a valid brp

      1. Hi Gloria, I’m not sure what a BRP looks like but I assume it has a “valid until” date. You can visit Mexico as long as your travel is within that date.

  9. I love that you put all the immigration websites so I could check for my own nationality. Thanks so much for sharing this!

  10. In the Caribbean, it’s funny how it’s the USA visa which opens up our travel possibilities. Nonetheless, we can visit 60+ countries visa free so I’m trying to see those ones before my 2023 visa appointment (mind you I applied months ago)

    1. 60+ countries sound like a sweet deal! We can see much less visa-free with a Nigerian passport, so having other visas like the US and UK visas help a lot to make travel easier. My US appointment was also postponed for about a year! haha

I love to hear from you, Leave a comment here!

I don't know who needs to hear this but your tour of Lagos doesn't have to include a visit to a slum. Your heart might be in the right place but your experience of this city shouldn't be limited to exploring certain places because you feel like it's the "real Lagos"

If you want to help, consider making a donation instead to the numerous local charities that already do good work to serve people.

Not every Lagos trip is loud or party-centric. Some are for quiet beach walks, slowing down on purpose, and long afternoons in a hammock with crashing waves as the soundtrack 🌊

Six years later, and @jarabeachresortng still feels like coming home 🌊

This solo weekday retreat was exactly how I wanted to close out my time in Lagos. Slow mornings, crashing waves, rare blue Lagos skies, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel truly seen 🌤✨️

Jara welcomes many guests, so imagine my surprise when I was "welcomed back" right from the point I booked my stay - and that warmth continued until I left.

And of course, it is not Jara Beach Resort without a little “jara”. I was surprised with a complimentary beach picnic, and just when I thought that was enough, I received a complimentary massage too! I loved every second of my stay.

Some places never lose their magic. This is one of them 💙

Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬🎉

It feels soooo good to be back home! I haven't been back in 3 years and this visit was EXACTLY what I needed to kick-start 2026! 🎉

Detty December is fun and all but oh, how I love Lagos in January! The city is calmer, and there are still some leftovers from the festive period - without the hefty price tag, traffic and crowds! ✨️

This past month in Lagos has been fantastic! I got to reconnect physically with my family and friends, and revisit some of my favourite places 💕

I saw an amazing play 🎭 (The Bride) @terrakulture, stopped over at @nikeartgallery for my art and culture fix 🎨 and had a wholesome solo retreat at my all time favourite beach resort in Lagos, @jarabeachresortng 🌤

It's been a month of introspection, a few bitter-sweet moments, love, family, some work and food. Good food!

Leaving Lagos with a full heart, a clearer mind, and deep gratitude for home. Until next time 💙
