My Peaceful Solo Escape to Jara Beach Resort

Six years ago, a very thoughtful gift brought us to Jara Beach Resort, an all-inclusive family-run resort in Museyo, Eleko. We spent three nights at the resort and had an absolutely magical time. Since then, I have looked forward to revisiting and thankfully, I got the chance to do so in the beginning of February.

Jara Beach Resort Picnic on the Beach

Coming back to Lagos after being away for a while, Jara Beach Resort was the one place I looked forward to visiting the most. I had a free weekend to visit with my family, but all the rooms were fully booked.

I had all but given up on staying there during this trip when I checked Instagram and saw that they not only had availability for a weekday I was still in the city but also had a 25% discount. It was hard to resist and I booked my trip immediately – this time, revisiting for a short solo weekday retreat.

The Jara Experience

It’s been six years since I visited and I’m happy to report that the hospitality has not diminished one bit. Jara Beach Resort welcomes several guests, and I did not expect them to remember our booking from six years ago. But imagine my surprise when I reached out to them for inquiries and was met with a “we can’t wait to welcome you back to Jara.” This was a sentiment that carried through my entire stay.

Jara Beach Resort All Inclusive Stay

Every member of staff greeted me like a special guest of honour. Honestly, it reminded me why I love this place so much. I remember walking in six years ago to see they had a congratulatory message on the board, congratulating Mark and me on our wedding, and now this. The level of detail and care, the attention to guests, the genuine warmth and friendliness – it’s not something that I experience a lot in Lagos. It’s now gotten to the point where I think it’s not Lagos without Jara.

Getting There: The Journey from Ikeja

To get to the resort, I got in an Uber from Ikeja. I estimated arriving within 3 hours. Instead, I was lucky with traffic and with the coastal road, we made the trip in under 2 hours. One change is that there’s a new toll by the community. It cost a thousand naira, but if you’re being picked up and dropped off, you might need to pay that twice. It’s literally the only time I needed any money during my stay.

The Lekki-Epe Expressway can be unpredictable and road traffic conditions can easily add an extra hour or two to your journey. If you’re travelling from the mainland, aim to leave early or prepare for a longer ride.

Arrival: The Welcome That Sets the Tone

Like before, I received a warm welcome, complete with a cold face towel (thank you!) and a drink and snacks! I hadn’t even been seated for a minute and the food had already begun pouring in!

Next, I received a tour of the place and got to see all the changes up close. Whenever I read that there was something new, I wondered how they managed the space to fit it all in. Being there and seeing it all beautifully done was wonderful. By the time the tour ended, it was time for lunch. I was craving good jollof rice, so that’s what I ordered and it hit the spot! More drinks came by and soon it was time to check in.

The Studio Room: Beachfront Bliss

I had booked the Studio Room on the beachfront and the views were immaculate. I settled into the room, welcome petals laid out on the bed, and I just relished being back here. Have I said how much I love this place?

The Studio Room typically sleeps 4, and I wasn’t charged a single supplement fee for staying solo. This is huge. Most resorts will charge you extra for occupying a larger room alone, but not Jara. I feel very proud of this establishment, almost as if I have a stake in it – I do not – and almost as if this article is sponsored – it is not.

What’s Changed in Six Years…

It was wonderful to see so much growth over the past years. When I visited, there were only 8 rooms. Now, there are 20. What I found surprising, though, was the pricing. Six years later, you can still book a room at Jara for roughly the same price as when I first visited. There are more premium options now, but the entry point has barely moved – and in Lagos, of all places, that is remarkable. Most things I have encountered in the city since returning have multiplied by at least 10!

I happened to arrive during a quiet period, before the Valentine’s Day rush, and was rewarded with a calm and pleasant atmosphere. While this was my solo retreat, I did wish I had returned with Mark to experience this together again. As a solo traveller though, I cannot speak enough about how calming this experience was. Waking up and falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves, seeing the rare blue skies in Lagos – it was indeed a treat.

The All-Inclusive Experience

Later on, I headed out to enjoy the facilities. The pool was welcoming and warm. Lagos is hot and humid in February, and the pool was inviting and refreshing. I had some afternoon treats, more snacks, more drinks.

Then my first “Jara” came when a staff member notified me that I had been gifted a complimentary sunset picnic by the beach. Six years ago, Mark and I received the same gift. You must know how much I love the beach and how much I love picnics and how much I love this resort! What a thoughtful gift.

Jara Picnic on the Beach

I passed the time leisurely until then and went ahead to enjoy the most delicious picnic by the beach, with the most gorgeous views. I could have stayed the entire night – it was so beautiful.

I was packing up to leave when a young man walked across the beach and seemed to be calmly heading towards me. The beach security guard quickly intercepted him, speaking courteously with the guy, while I headed back in.

Dinner and Entertainment Under the Stars

After refreshing, it was time for dinner. Honestly, by this time, my stomach was bursting! I ordered the pepper soup of the day, which was catfish pepper soup, and it was delicious – it was actually my favourite meal during my stay. I had ordered the pepper soup, but the chef also made me the tomato bruschetta and an Italian cream which were quite delightful too.

Beautiful Places to Visit in Lagos Nigeria

Next was my main meal, which was beef stir fry and rice. The stir fry was a little too salty for my liking, but overall, it was a good meal. After my meal, I settled in to watch the movie showing. The entertainment for the night was “Movie Under the Stars,” served, of course, with popcorn and a drink. It was a movie I had not seen before and I quite enjoyed it.

Then it was time to call it a night – but not before the staff informed me that I had also been gifted a complimentary massage for the next morning.

I slept peacefully to the sound of crashing waves and whispering palms and awoke the next morning to those same sounds. It was hard to resist the urge to go for a sunrise walk on the beach. I chose not to fight it and spent the calm morning enjoying the ocean breeze and the cold sand beneath my feet. Then, I spent some time in the pool before going for breakfast.

The complimentary massage that followed was exactly what I needed. Professional, relaxing, and the perfect send-off before checking out. As I packed my things and prepared to leave, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this experience. Jara Beach Resort delivered on every promise it made six years ago and continues to exceed expectations.

Final Verdict: Why Jara Beach Resort Remains Special

Six years later, Jara Beach Resort has maintained its standards and grown thoughtfully. The expansion from 8 to 20 rooms was done tastefully, prices have remained remarkably stable despite Lagos inflation, and the genuine warmth of the staff continues to make every guest feel like family. If I had one honest note, it would be about the food. It’s still enjoyable, but I remember meals from my first visit genuinely stopped me mid-bite.

Still I think Jara Beach Resort is exceptional and whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a solo retreat like mine, or a family vacation, Jara delivers an experience that few Lagos resorts can match. I left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already planning my next visit.
